The FS plate is 121 × 80 mm. Turned on its side, the same plate becomes 80 mm wide and 121 mm tall, which is the whole point of the vertical version: it covers the same box and fits where the horizontal face would run past a corner or an architrave.
A 121 mm face needs 121 mm of clear plaster. Plenty of Australian walls do not give it — the strip between a door frame and a return wall, a pier beside a window, the panel above a kitchen benchtop. FS302-V uses the 80 mm edge instead.
FS302-V is available as a 10A switch, a 16A switch or a 35A switch on the same vertical plate. The mechanism changes; the face, the cut-out and the mounting screws do not.
Nothing behind the wall changes. The plate still fixes to the standard Australian wall box on the same centres, and the terminals are still screw terminals with back and side cable entry.

Suffixes are order references agreed on the quotation rather than separate catalogue numbers. All three use the identical vertical face and the identical wall box; see the full FS series for the horizontal equivalents and the socket range.
A single switch is the easiest thing to place on a plan and the hardest thing to place on a real wall. The plan shows a switch beside a door; the wall shows 95 mm of plaster between the architrave and the corner, and a 121 mm horizontal plate does not fit it.
FS302-V is the same one gang two way mechanism on an 80 × 121 mm vertical face. It is not a different switch — it is the same switch with the plate rotated, so the narrow edge runs along the wall and the tall edge runs up it.
That is the entire design brief. Where the wall has width, use the horizontal plate; where it has height and no width, use this one.

Rotating one gang sounds like a solution looking for a problem until you walk a site. The three places it comes up most often are the strip between a door frame and a return wall, the pier between two windows in a brick veneer facade, and the splashback panel above a benchtop where the tile set-out has already been fixed.
In each case the constraint is horizontal. There is enough height for a 121 mm plate; there is not enough width for one. Because the plate is rectangular rather than square, turning it is the cheapest fix available — cheaper than moving the door, moving the tile line or accepting a switch on the hinge side.
The trade-off is honest and worth stating: an 80 mm wide plate gives less margin around the wall box. On a horizontal plate the box sits comfortably inside 121 mm; on this one it sits inside 80 mm, so the cut-out has to be square and centred. That is a first-fix discipline, not a product problem.
Cover is the number to check before ordering. The plate has to hide the box opening plus any plaster damage around it, and an 80 mm face leaves roughly 5 mm each side on a typical 70 mm box opening. If the cut-out has been chased out with a hammer, a vertical plate will not cover it and a horizontal one might.
Two practical notes for the installer. First, mark the box orientation on the wall before plaster — a box set for a horizontal plate is fine, but the cable entries should not end up where the plate screws land. Second, keep the cable entry at the back rather than the side on a narrow plate; side entry eats the clearance you have just bought.
The mechanism itself is unchanged, which matters for stock. One switch mechanism, one box, two faces. A distributor can hold the horizontal plate as the default and the vertical plate as the exception without doubling the mechanism inventory. The plate dimension guide lists every format in the range.
FS302-V is built on the same line as the horizontal one gang plate, which is why the certification covers both without a separate approval file. Only the face moulding and the packing label change.
For private label orders that means a range can be introduced with the horizontal plate and extended to vertical later without a new tooling cycle. White and black are stock in both faces; champagne, green and custom RAL run to order with a colour sample approved first.
Ordering a vertical one gang plate is the same check as any switch, with one extra question at the front.
Custom faces, laser marking and retail packaging for the vertical one gang plate, in white, black, champagne, green or a matched RAL.
Factory-direct pricing on mixed horizontal and vertical plates, so a distributor can stock both faces from one order and one lead time.
Datasheets that show both plate faces, technical support on narrow-wall installations, and priority production for regular partners.
Tell us the rating, the colour and the quantity and we quote the vertical one gang plate factory-direct, with SAA documentation under AS/NZS 3112. Price is quoted per order rather than listed because the face, the mechanism and the packing all move the number.
Contact Our Sales TeamYes. The box and the fixing centres are the same; only the face is rotated. What changes is the margin of plate around the opening, which drops from roughly 25 mm each side to about 5 mm, so the cut-out has to be clean. If the plaster around the box is broken, fit an escutcheon or use the horizontal plate.
It is a two way mechanism as standard, so it works as a single-location switch or as one end of a two-location circuit with strappers to a second switch. Nothing about the vertical face changes the wiring — the terminals are in the same relative positions on the mechanism.
No. The 35A mechanism is taller internally but fits the same vertical face and the same box; the terminals are heavier and the cable capacity is larger, which is what the electrician actually needs to know. Confirm the cable size against the mechanism before first fix.
Yes, and that is the usual way a house is specified — horizontal as the default, vertical only where the wall demands it, all from one colour batch. Ordering both faces together is also the only reliable way to get the champagne and green finishes to match across the two mouldings.
