FS304-V carries the two gang circuit on an 80 × 121 mm face, so the rockers sit one above the other instead of left and right. Same two circuits, same box, 41 mm less wall.
The single most common reason a two gang plate gets rotated is a wall that gives 100 mm between the architrave and a corner. The vertical face leaves about 10 mm each side on an 80 mm plate — tight, but it fits, and it fits without a second plate.
Two circuits at one point is the standard kitchen arrangement — task lighting and general — and the same count appears above a laundry bench and beside a bathroom vanity where the wall is tiled to a fixed set-out.
Rotating the plate rotates the circuit order. The circuit that was leftmost on the horizontal plate becomes the top rocker here, which is the one thing worth marking on the drawing before the electrician terminates.

Order references are confirmed on the quotation; the face and the box do not change between ratings. Horizontal equivalents and the rest of the range are on the FS series page.
A two gang plate is where the horizontal format starts to cost wall. At 121 mm it needs a clear run of plaster that many internal walls do not have once the architrave and the corner are in place.
FS304-V keeps both circuits and takes the width down to 80 mm. The two mechanisms sit one above the other, which also puts both rockers inside a single hand position rather than asking the user to reach sideways past a door frame.

Two single horizontal plates side by side take 242 mm plus a gap — more wall than a two gang horizontal plate, and two boxes to cut. Two single vertical plates take 160 mm. One two gang vertical plate takes 80 mm and one box.
The trade-off is that a single box has to take four switched actives plus feed, earth and strappers when both gangs are two way. That is a deeper box than a one gang installation, and it is the number to settle at first fix rather than at fit-off.
Most vertical plates are specified as an exception on a wall that already has horizontal ones — a kitchen with horizontal plates along the bench and one vertical beside the pantry door. Colour is the visible variable, and acrylic faces vary slightly between batches.
Order the horizontal and vertical faces together so they come off the same colour run, and check the champagne and green finishes side by side before sign-off. The mechanical parts are shared; only the face moulding differs.
FS304-V runs on the same assembly line as FS304. Both faces go through the same per-gang function test on the finished plate, which is the only reliable way to catch a rocker that binds once the face is clipped on.
White and black are held in both faces; champagne, green and custom RAL are produced to order with a colour sample approved before the run.
Two questions decide the order faster than anything else: how much clear wall there is, and how deep the box can be.
Custom faces and laser marking on the vertical two gang plate, in the four stock colours or a matched RAL.
Mixed horizontal and vertical plates from one factory order, so a project can keep one colour batch across both faces.
Technical support on box depth and two way strappers, plus datasheets covering both plate faces for specifiers.
Send the rating per gang, the colour and the quantity and we return a factory-direct price for the vertical two gang plate, with SAA documentation under AS/NZS 3112. Price is per order, so the box depth and packing are settled with the quotation.
Contact Our Sales TeamYes. Each gang is an independent two way mechanism, so one can run strappers to a second switch and the other can be a simple single-location switch on the same plate. Only the box depth is affected, and only by the strappers on the two way gang.
Neither — the order rotates. On the horizontal plate the circuits run left to right; on the vertical plate they run top to bottom, so the circuit drawn first becomes the top rocker. Mark it on the drawing before termination rather than assuming.
No. The plate fixes to the standard Australian wall box on the same centres; only the face outline is rotated. What tightens is the margin of plate around the box opening, roughly 5 mm a side instead of 25 mm.
Yes, within the mechanism range. A 10A lighting gang and a 16A gang for a heavier circuit can share the plate; the terminals are rated individually and the face is common. Confirm the combination when ordering so the correct mechanisms are picked.
