Key Features & Typical Use

Six Circuits on One 121 × 80 mm Plate

FS312 is the largest configuration in the FS range: six independent two-way mechanisms on the same 121 × 80 mm acrylic plate used from one gang up. It is the plate that keeps a large home or a commercial zone to a single switch position.

Large Homes and Multi-Zone Rooms

Six gangs suits the rooms that would otherwise need three plates: a large open-plan living area with perimeter, pendant, display, kitchen, pantry and outdoor lighting; a commercial floor with six zones at one entry; a hospitality space with scene-based switching.

Dense Wiring, Planned Early

Six gangs means six switched actives plus feed, earth and any strappers in one box. That is a first-fix decision, not a fit-off one — deep boxes, generous cable entry and a clear schedule are what make a six-gang installation straightforward.

The Same Mechanism as the Rest of the Range

Every gang uses the same AgNi15/Cu contact set and screw terminal as the one-gang plate. There is no special mechanism for large plates, which is why the switching feel is consistent across a whole installation and why spares are simple to hold.

FS Series 6 Gang Models

Model Configuration
FS312 6 gang 2 way switch, 10A
FS311 6 gang 2 way switch, 16A

All 6 gang models share the same 121 × 80 mm acrylic plate, the same screw-terminal mechanism and the same SAA approval under AS/NZS 3112. Other gang counts in the FS series run from one to six; see the full FS series for the rest of the range.

The Australian Standard 6 Gang Wall Switch in Acrylic

Six gangs is the top of the FS range and the point where a switch plate becomes a wiring decision. FS312 fits six independent two-way circuits on the same 121 × 80 mm acrylic plate as the one-gang, which means a large room can keep every lighting group at one position.

Two models cover it: FS312 at 10A and FS311 at 16A. In practice the 10A version covers almost all lighting; the 16A model exists for circuits that need it and shares the same plate, footprint and mechanism design.

The installation is where six gangs differs. Six switched actives, a feed, an earth and up to six pairs of strappers is a lot of copper, and the box has to be chosen for it. Plan the box, the cable entry and the circuit schedule at first fix; after that the plate installs like any other FS model.

6 Gang or a Grid System?

A six-gang plate and a grid system solve the same problem in different ways. The plate is fixed — six gangs, one footprint, one part number. A grid system lets you build the configuration on site from modules, which is more flexible but adds parts, cost and a second inventory to manage.

For a repeatable project, the fixed plate wins: one model number, one lead time, one spare to hold, and identical appearance across every room. For a one-off bespoke installation where the gang count is still moving, a grid system absorbs changes that a fixed plate cannot.

The middle ground is to specify the plate for the circuits you know and split the remainder onto a second plate. A four gang plate plus a two-gang plate often installs more cleanly than one six-gang in a tight box, and the plate dimension guide shows why the footprint is identical either way.

Who Makes Six Gang Switches for Australian Projects?

Six-gang plates sit at the project end of the market. They are bought against a schedule by contractors, developers and fit-out companies rather than picked off a retail shelf, and the brands that supply them in Australia are the project ranges — Clipsal, HPM, Connected Switchgear, Zetr and Voltex — plus imported ranges supplied through wholesalers.

At this size the question of who manufactures becomes practical rather than political. Ask whether the range actually goes to six gangs in one plate or stops at four and expects you to double up; ask whether the plate format matches the rest of the installation; and ask for the SAA certificate against the exact model number.

IGOTO manufactures FS312 and FS311 in Yueqing for distributors and project suppliers, with SAA approval under AS/NZS 3112, colour matching across batches and OEM branding. We supply the trade as a factory, not as an Australian brand, and the plate is the same one that carries our distributors’ logos.

Factory-Direct OEM / ODM Manufacturer

We Manufacture, You Brand

As the manufacturer, we treat six-gang plates as the slowest to assemble and the most valuable to test, so every gang is function-tested on the finished plate before packing. A single binding mechanism on a six-gang plate scraps the whole unit, which is why end-of-line testing matters more here than anywhere else in the range.

FS312 and FS311 run in white, black, champagne and green with custom RAL matching and laser marking. Project orders are colour-sorted and gang-sorted, and mixed containers with one to six gang plates are standard.

  • OEM branding — laser marking on the mechanism, custom panel colours and your own retail packaging.
  • ODM options — mixed gang plates, one-way or two-way mechanisms and specification adjustments built around your catalogue.
  • Certification — SAA approval under AS/NZS 3112, with compliance documents supplied on request.
  • MOQ — flexible wholesale quantities; mixed white, black and coloured 6 gang plates welcome in one container.

Buying Guide

Ordering a 6 gang Australian switch is straightforward — the checklist below mirrors what our sales team will confirm with you anyway.

  1. Confirm all six circuits arrive at one position and that the box can take the cable.
  2. Choose 10A (FS312) or 16A (FS311) per circuit; most lighting schedules need the 10A.
  3. Decide the box depth and cable entry with the electrician before first fix.
  4. Select the colour across the whole schedule, not per plate.
  5. Approve a sample with the full six-gang wiring and the final plate colour.
  6. Production, per-gang testing, colour-sorted packing and dispatch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a six gang switch available in Australia?

Yes. Six-gang plates are part of the standard Australian range — IGOTO builds FS312 at 10A and FS311 at 16A on a 121 × 80 mm acrylic plate, and the larger brands carry equivalent models. Availability from wholesalers is thinner than one and two gang, so project orders are usually placed against a schedule rather than bought off the shelf.

What wall box does a six gang plate need?

The plate fits a standard Australian wall box, but the box has to be deep enough for six mechanisms plus feed, earth and strappers. In practice a deeper box is specified, and some installations use a box with larger cable entry. Confirm the box model before first fix — it is much cheaper than changing it after plaster.

Can a six gang plate be split into smaller plates?

It can, and sometimes should be. If the six circuits divide naturally across a doorway or between two walls, two smaller plates install more cleanly and are easier to wire. A six-gang plate is the right answer when the circuits genuinely converge at one position and the box can take them.

What is the lead time for six gang OEM orders?

Standard colours ship from stock in normal production cycles; custom RAL matching, laser marking and retail packaging add a sample approval step before mass production. Exact lead time depends on quantity and colour mix, so it is quoted per order rather than published — send the model list and quantity for a date.
