Six gangs on the 80 × 121 mm face put six rockers into 115 mm of vertical pitch. It is the maximum the FS range offers in either orientation, and the tightest to install.
Where a horizontal six gang plate will not fit between a door and a corner, the vertical face keeps all six circuits at one point instead of splitting them across two plates.
If the wall gives 121 mm, use the horizontal plate. Six gangs is already a lot of conductor in one box, and the vertical face narrows the working space behind the plate rather than widening it.
Six rockers in a stack are hard to identify from memory. Mark the order on the drawing, then label the plate — a six gang plate without labelling is a service call waiting to happen.

Same face, same box, two ratings. The horizontal six gang plate and the rest of the range are on the FS series page.
Six lighting groups at one position is a large house or a commercial floor. Doing it on an 80 mm face is a geometric decision, not an electrical one.
FS312-V is the same six gang mechanism set as the horizontal plate, rotated. It exists for the wall that cannot give 121 mm — and for the specifier who would rather keep six circuits together than split them across two plates.

A grid or modular system spreads six switches across a larger frame with consistent spacing. It looks deliberate and it is easier to label, but it needs a bigger cut-out, a different box and a different price.
A six gang vertical plate is smaller, cheaper and fits a standard box. If the wall is wide and the budget allows, grid reads better on a large wall. If the wall is narrow, this plate is the only option that keeps six circuits in one place.
Doubling back to the drawing is the step that gets skipped. On a horizontal plate the six circuits read left to right in the order drawn; rotated, they read top to bottom, so every circuit number shifts position relative to the plan.
Label the plate and update the drawing before handover. On a six gang plate the cost of getting this wrong is a call-back for every circuit, not just one.
Six gang plates are the slowest to assemble and the most valuable to test, so every plate is function tested gang by gang rather than sampled.
FS312-V is produced in white and black from stock, with champagne, green and RAL to order. Labelling is available as part of the OEM programme because six unlabelled rockers are unusable in practice.
Six gang orders are almost always drawing-led, so start from the ceiling plan.
Custom faces, laser marking and gang labelling on the six gang vertical plate, in four stock colours or a matched RAL.
Factory pricing with packed-to-schedule delivery, so a six gang plate arrives with the rest of the floor’s accessories.
Datasheets, labelling support and technical advice on box sizing for high gang counts.
Send the ceiling plan, the rating and the quantity and we quote FS312-V factory-direct, with SAA documentation under AS/NZS 3112. Labelled plates are quoted with the schedule so the marking matches the drawing.
Contact Our Sales TeamYes, in both horizontal and vertical faces. Above six, the usual approaches are a second plate or a grid system, because the mechanism pitch cannot be compressed further without changing the rocker size.
Yes, and on six gangs it is worth doing. Laser marking and printed labelling are available through the OEM programme; the marking is produced from your schedule, so send the circuit order with the order.
Only for wall width. A horizontal six gang needs 121 mm of clear plaster; the vertical needs 80 mm. If the wall gives 121 mm, the horizontal plate is easier to install and easier to read.
