FS324-V is a CAT6 data socket on the vertical 121 × 80 mm plate. It is the version for a narrow wall or a vertical run, where a horizontal outlet would break the alignment.
The module is CAT6, which is the default for new cabling in Australian projects. It supports gigabit networks and is the safer specification where the cable may later carry higher speeds.
The single data point is the desk, the television or the access point. Where two drops are needed at one position, a two-module plate is cleaner than two separate outlets.
The module fits the FS frame, so a vertical plate can carry data beside power at one cut-out.

All models use the same 121 × 80 mm acrylic plate and the same SAA approval under AS/NZS 3112. The FS series covers switches, power points and communication outlets from one to six gangs; see the full FS series.
A vertical data outlet is an alignment decision as much as a technical one. FS324-V puts a CAT6 module on the vertical FS plate, so a column of vertical plates stays straight instead of stepping out at the network point.
The module is CAT6, the current default for new cabling. CAT5E still exists in older buildings, but specifying CAT6 at the outlet removes a future replacement when the cable behind it is already upgraded.
The plate is the standard FS acrylic face and fits the standard Australian wall box, so the outlet matches the switches and power points beside it.
CAT6 for new cabling. The cost difference at the outlet is small, and it avoids a second visit when the network is upgraded. CAT5E only makes sense where the existing cable is CAT5E and matching it is the priority.
The outlet has to match the cable and the termination standard. A CAT6 module on CAT5E cable does not make the run CAT6, so confirm both ends before ordering.
Where two drops are needed, the two-gang data plate is the alternative to two singles. Where voice is needed as well, the combination plate covers it.
Data outlets are supplied by the switch brands and by specialist network ranges. Clipsal, HPM, Connected Switchgear, Zetr and Voltex all carry modules that fit standard plates; the module category and the termination are what matter.
Ask for the module category, the termination type and whether the outlet is being certified as part of the network. A plate that looks right but carries the wrong module is a commissioning problem.

The outlet will physically terminate, but the run performs to the cable specification, not the outlet. CAT6 modules are specified with CAT6 cable.
Enough for the cable bend radius, which is the number installers underestimate. CAT6 is stiffer than telephone cable and will not tolerate a tight fold behind a shallow box, so check the depth against the cable manufacturer’s minimum bend radius before first fix.
