FS328 is a light dimmer rated 400W. FS329 is a fan speed controller rated 200W. Same plate, same knob, same switch beside it — and they are not interchangeable, which is the first thing to settle.
Each plate pairs a rotary control with a switch, so the fitting can be isolated at the wall without losing the level you set. That is the arrangement most often specified for a bedroom or a living room.
The ratings are not marketing numbers, they are load ceilings. A dimmer on a fan will buzz and fail; a fan controller on a lamp will not give useful dimming. Match the device to the load.
A 400W rating is a resistive load figure. LED lamps draw far less and some drivers will not dim cleanly at the bottom of the range, so the lamp type has to be confirmed before the dimmer is specified.

| FS328 | Light dimmer, 400W, with switch, horizontal plate |
| FS329 | Fan speed controller, 200W, with switch, horizontal plate |
The two models share the face and the box but not the electronics; specify the load, not the plate. Vertical versions are on the FS328-V page.
Two plates that look the same and behave nothing alike. One is built for a lamp circuit, the other for a motor, and swapping them is the most common mistake on a dimming schedule.
FS328 handles up to 400W of lighting. FS329 handles up to 200W of fan motor. Both pair the control with an isolating switch, and both fit the standard Australian wall box.

A dimmer changes the voltage waveform to reduce light output. A fan controller reduces motor speed, and a motor behaves nothing like a lamp — it is inductive, it has inertia, and it will hum or overheat if fed a dimmed waveform not designed for it.
So the question is never which plate looks better. It is what is on the end of the cable: a lighting circuit takes FS328, a ceiling or exhaust fan takes FS329. A circuit with both needs two plates, not one clever one.
The 400W and 200W figures are ceilings, not targets. A dimmer running at 5% of its rating with three LED lamps may sit below the minimum load its driver needs to start, which shows up as flicker at the low end rather than as a failure.
Ask for the lamp make and driver model, and for fans ask whether the motor is AC or has its own controller. Where the load is unusual, a sample test on site before the full order is cheaper than a returns conversation.
Both plates are assembled from tested control modules, then function tested through the full range rather than at a single point. A dimmer that behaves at half travel and flickers at the bottom is the failure that matters.
White and black stock, champagne and green to order. Custom RAL is available where the plate sits beside a coloured joinery run.
This is a load question before it is a product question.
Custom faces and laser marking on the dimmer and fan controller plates, colour matched to the wall.
Factory pricing on mixed dimmer and fan controller orders, with the electronics matched to your schedule.
Support on load matching and lamp compatibility, plus datasheets for both models.
Tell us the lamp or motor on the circuit, the quantity and the colour and we confirm which model fits before quoting factory-direct, with SAA documentation. Getting the electronics right first is cheaper than correcting a schedule later.
Contact Our Sales TeamSome hum at low speed is normal for an AC fan motor and is a property of the motor, not only the controller. If the noise is unacceptable, check whether the fan is suitable for speed control at all — fans with an integrated controller or a DC motor usually are not.
It depends on the lamp driver. LED loads are much lower than the 400W ceiling and some drivers do not dim smoothly at the bottom of the range. Confirm the lamp model, and test a sample where the load is small.
It isolates the fitting at the wall so the control can be left at its set level. That is the usual arrangement in a bedroom or living room, where the dimmer level is set once and the switch is used daily.
