Three-way Switch Symbol, 3 Pos Switch Symbol, or SPDT Switch Symbol

SPDT’s symbol is similar to SPST, except it has a Y-shaped structure, with a single “line” serving as the common terminal and the other two as traveler connections. 

It could also include a tiny 3-digit number directly next to the “S“.

The digit represents how many locations you can control a light from.

Another configuration that is similar to this is the four-way switch symbol, which has a 4-digit number next to the “S.”

Other Electrical Switch Symbols

Float Switch Symbol

Its function depends on its default state:

  • Normally Open (NO): The circuit opens when the liquid level is low.

Pressure switches have 3 contact types:

  • Normally Open (NO): Closes the circuit at a particular pressure

  • Changeover (SPDT): Switches between NC and NO depending on the device’s purpose.

Temperature Switch Symbol

Similar to other symbols, it can include a circle at the end of the lines to indicate the switch contacts.
